The Jamaican pimento is used in several fields, such as food, beverages or cosmetics because it has many virtues. Christopher Columbus brought it back to Portugal during one of his journeys. It is grown in more than 64 countries. Pimento is a plant with sharp, veined and shiny leaves. Its fruits are red but there are many different colors, long, fine and pointed. Its very specific taste is due to one molecule: the capsaicin. |
