History & Traditions :

The bitter orange or orange tree is a tree whose applications are numerous. Indeed, its green leaves are distilled in smallgrain essential oil. From its white flowers are extracted an absolute, an essential oil and a floral water: the Neroli. The fruit - the bigarade - is an orange citrus with bitter juice from which is extracted the HE of bitter orange.

The bigaradier is a tree of 5 to 10 meters. Cultivated in abundance in Grasse and southern Spain at one time, it is now rather present in North Africa, Ivory Coast and the Americas.
