History & Traditions :
Mandarin is native to South-east Asia, particularly China and Vietnam. It did not arrive in Europe until the beginning of the 19th century, and particularly in Italy (Sicily and Calabria). His name comes from his color, reminiscent of the mandarin silk dress, the high officials of the ancient Chinese empire. The mandarin tree is a small tree of 3 to 6 m with bright green single leaves, and round fruits of 5 to 9 cm with numerous seeds. The mandarin is first green, then yellow and after red. It is one of the least acidic citrus fruits, with its sweet flesh. It is grown in Spain, Sicily, North Africa and the United States.
