History & Traditions :
The lime, originally from Indonesia, was imported into the Mediterranean countries, but today it grows mostly in Mexico. It was widely used on ships, especially British ships, to fight scurvy. The occupants of its ships were called the "Limeys" hence its name.
The lime is the fruit of a shrub up to 8 meters high with a gray bark. It is provided with heterogeneous branches furnished with a multitude of thorns. It has long oval leaves (up to 17 cm) and white flowers, which give way to a green fruit.
