Native to tropical regions like Guatemala, it is also found in Thailand, Sri Lanka and India.
The lemongrass gives off a strong citrusy smell when pressed, giving name to the "verbena of India". It has many virtues and is particularly used in Asian cuisine.

The lemongrass occurs in the form of large tufts formed by a multitude of long, thin and green leaves.
