History & Traditions :
Safflower is native to the Middle East. It is assimilated as false saffron and it was and is very used by dyers. It comes from the word "kurthum" in Arabic meaning dyeing. It is from the 1950s that Man finds other interests in safflower, as in painting or in cosmetics.
It is an annual plant that can measure up to 180 cm in height. Its flowers are orange to yellow in the form of "thistle". Its leaves are pointed of medium size and dark green color.
