History & Traditions :
The Sweet Marjoram is native from the Mediterranean basin (notably Turkey), and is mainly cultivated in Egypt. It has been used since antiquity for its many virtues, and was used in religious ceremonies.
It is in the form of a perennial plant about 80 cm high. Its flowers are pink, violet and white. Its leaves are small, oval and green; It is their form which gave its name of "shell" to marjoram.
