Also called Exotic verbena, the Litsea cubeba is native from China, Indonesia and South-East Asia. It’s widely used in Asia, in particular in chinese medicine. its citrus scent is reminiscent of verbena.

The botanical name cubeba, comes from the resemblance of its fruits (small and round) with grains of pepper. Indeed, "cubeba" was borrowed from the Piper cubeba pepper tree.
It is a tree 5 to 12 m tall with evergreen leaves, with small round fruits.
