Laurel, native of the Mediterranean basin (Morocco), Turkey or the Balkans. Indeed, in the Greek mythology Daphne (nymph) fleeing Apollo was transformed into laurel by his father “Penee”. Among the Romans, it was used for laurel crowns worn by poets and especially by victors, as well as in the Middle Ages to crown medical scholars. It is a shrub measuring up to 20 meters high crowned with wavy leaves, leathery and dark green. Its flowers are white and grouped in umbels. |
