Its origin has long been mysterious, but it is now known that it originates from India. It is grown in Sri Lanka and Madagascar. The clove has been known for over two thousand years in India, where it is used to have a fresh breath. They have also been used extensively by dentists for their properties.

It grows in countries with a tropical and humid climate. The clove is a tree of average 12 meters, with oval and green leaves. Its flowers are white and pink. Cloves are dried unmatured flowers.
