History & Traditions :
The French name cajeput is borrowed from the Indonesian Kayu putih meaning "white tree" in reference to the particular color of its trunk. It comes in the composition of the "Balm of the red tiger", ointment of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. It is a shrub or evergreen tree, up to 30 m tall. It has small white flowers forming an ear and long leaves. It is found in Southeast Asia and northern Australia. |
