The term basilisk derives from the Greek basilikón which means "royal plant". In India, it is a sacred plant that is associated with the worship of Vishnu and Krishna. It is planted around the temples as a symbol of protection. In some parts of Africa, Basil is used to ward off bad luck.

It’s an annual aromatic plant from 30 to 60 cm, with oval green leaves. It is grown in Egypt.
